Why Choose Compass Hours

The Difference a Structured
Workshop Makes

Most households know they should prepare for retirement more thoroughly. The question is how to actually do it — with the right materials, the right conversations, and a clear process that moves forward.

What You Gain

Competitive Advantages at a Glance

Compass Hours workshops are built around what households in Malaysia actually need — not a generic framework adapted from elsewhere.

Locally Developed Content

Workshop materials are written with the Malaysian household context in mind — EPF structures, local property records, family conversation norms, and the Penang-area professional services landscape.

Tangible Materials Every Session

Every workshop includes a printed workbook. You do not leave with a list of URLs or a PDF to maybe read later — you leave with a physical document to reference, annotate, and keep.

Experienced Facilitators

Our facilitators have backgrounds in adult education and household organisation — not sales or financial product promotion. Their role is to educate and support, not to steer you toward any particular service or product.

Household-Focused Format

The annual programme is explicitly designed for two participants — acknowledging that retirement preparation in a household is a shared task, not a solo project assigned to one partner.

Clear Educational Boundaries

We do not give personal financial, legal, or tax advice. This is a feature, not a limitation — it means every session stays in the space where we can genuinely help, and specialist questions go to the professionals who are qualified to answer them.

Flexible Entry Points

A single workshop at RM 480 lets you assess the approach before committing to a longer programme. Walk-in seats are available for single sessions, making it straightforward to attend without extensive advance planning.

Expertise

Facilitators with Adult Education Backgrounds

The two senior facilitators at Compass Hours have, between them, over twenty years of experience in adult community education and household organising support. That experience shows in how sessions are structured — with enough material to be substantive and enough space for questions without the session becoming a lecture.

  • Quarterly facilitator development and peer review
  • Annual content review and workbook update
  • Participant feedback incorporated into every review cycle

Nine Years Running Workshops

Since 2016, Compass Hours has run workshops in George Town, refining each session format based on what participants tell us actually helped — and what they wish had been covered differently.

A Clear Map for Each Session

Participants know before they arrive what the session will cover, what materials they will receive, and what reading is suggested between sessions for the course and annual programme formats.

Process

Structured Sessions, Not Open-Ended Discussions

Each Compass Hours workshop follows a defined session plan. There is a clear opening, a structured body with guided activities, and a closing that summarises what was covered and what to focus on before the next session or independent follow-up. Facilitators keep the session on track while leaving room for participant questions.

  • Pre-session material brief sent to registered participants
  • Two-hour sessions designed for focus without fatigue
  • Printed session summary included in workbook

Support

Responsive to Questions Before and After Sessions

Nadia, our programme coordinator, responds to registration enquiries within one working day. For annual programme participants, the three private facilitator sessions provide direct access to work through questions that arise between group workshops.

  • One working day response to phone and email enquiries
  • Private facilitator sessions included in annual programme
  • Written annual review summarises household's preparation work

Contact During Office Hours

Monday to Friday, 9 am – 5:30 pm, and Saturday mornings. Reach the team by phone at +60 4-263 7184 or by email at [email protected].

Transparent Pricing in Ringgit

RM 480 for a single workshop. RM 1,150 for the three-session course. RM 2,720 for the annual household programme (two participants). No additional charges for printed materials included in the session.

Value

Clear Pricing, Materials Included

Every Compass Hours price includes the printed materials for that programme — workbooks, handouts, and reading lists. There are no add-on fees for the materials that are core to how the sessions work. The annual programme covers two participants at one price, recognising that retirement preparation is usually a household matter.

  • All printed materials included in session price
  • Annual programme covers two participants
  • Single workshop entry point at RM 480

How We Compare

Compass Hours vs. Other Approaches

Many households approach retirement preparation through generic online resources, one-off seminars tied to product sales, or simply by trying to work through it alone. Here is how a structured educational programme differs.

Feature Typical Alternatives Compass Hours
Printed workbook and materials Rarely included Every session
Household pair participation Individual focus Annual programme
Independent of financial product sales Often linked to products Fully independent
Malaysia-specific content Often generic Locally developed
Private facilitator sessions available Group only Annual programme
Written annual review Not standard Annual programme
Walk-in entry for single sessions Fixed enrolment Subject to capacity

What Makes Us Different

Unique Features of the Compass Hours Approach

The Compass-Rose Session Structure

Each topic — records, conversations, calendar — is treated as a point on a compass. Participants build their understanding by working through each point in a defined order, with the facilitator mapping where they are in the process at all times. This gives sessions a clear orientation that generic workshops rarely provide.

Workbooks That Work After the Session

The workbooks are designed for ongoing use — with space for notes, checklists that participants can revisit over weeks, and references to the kinds of professionals who handle questions that arise. They are not a summary of what was discussed; they are a working document.

Referral to Qualified Professionals

When questions arise that go beyond the educational scope of the workshop, facilitators acknowledge them and explain the type of professional who handles that area — without recommending specific firms. Participants leave with clarity about what kind of professional help they may still need to arrange.

Annual Review as a Written Document

The Household Retirement Year programme ends with a written review — a document that summarises the household's organising work over the year and identifies areas to revisit. This is not a verbal debrief; it is a physical record of what the household has worked through and what remains.
